It is with great sadness that the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of RW Bro Richard Stainton Edward Sandbach MA LLM is reported. A resident of the RMBI home at Devonshire Court, Oadby, he passed away on 10 January 2015 in his 100th year.
In a most illustrious Masonic career he was the Provincial Grand Master of the Craft in this Province from 1984 to 1990, Deputy Provincial Grand Master from 1978 to 1984 and Assistant Provincial Grand Master 1974 - 1978.
Initiated into Clerestory Lodge in London in 1949, he became a joining member of Fitzwilliam Lodge in Peterborough in 1951.
He was exalted into St Peters Chapter in 1952. From 1978 to1990 he was also the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent of and over the Holy Royal Arch in this Province.
Also in the Craft, he was the holder of the Grand Master's Order of Service to Masonry (OSM) which he was awarded in 2006. In the Holy Royal Arch he was Past Assistant Grand Sojourner (PAGSoj).
He was a member of and achieved high office in numerous other orders - His Mark and Mariner service spanned 2 months short of 60 years service in 4 Mark and 3 RAM Lodges.
Advanced into Fitzwilliam Mark Lodge on 24/03/1955, he was appointed to Grand Rank as Dep.G.Reg. in 1975. He was subsequently promoted to PGMO and became a RWBro on his appointment as the GSW in 1985.
Elevated into Powys RAM Lodge on 21/01/1956, he was honoured in 1976 with appointment to the Grand Master's Royal Ark Council (Honoris Causis).
His contribution to Masonry in general and this Province in particular was immense and he will be sadly missed.
