Early History of the Province
Province of Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire & Rutlandshire
William Kelly (1858-1894) Provincial Grand Master
Following Bro Kelly’s death in the summer of 1894, after holding the office of ProvGM for 38 years, the Grand Master focussed attention upon the size to which the Province had grown and directed the dissolution of the Province into three.
Lodges in Leicestershire and Rutlandshire would form the Province of Leicestershire & Rutland. Lodges in Derbyshire would form the Province of Derbyshire and Lodges in Northamptonshire, Huntingdonshire and Bedfordshire to form a Province of that combined name.
The MW Grand Master appointed the Earl of Euston to be ProvGM of Leicestershire and Rutland at the same time holding ProvGM of Northamptonshire, Huntingdonshire & Bedfordshire, whilst Bro Abraham Woodiwiss became ProvGM of Derbyshire.
