Northamptonshire & Huntingdonshire attend 150th MBF Festival Celebrations

The 150thAnniversary Festival of The Mark Benevolent Fund was hosted by the Mark Province of Lincolnshire under the Presidency of R.W.Bro. Rev’d Trevor Walker, Provincial Grand Master, at Lincoln on Saturday 7thJuly 2018.

The Festival Dinner was held at the Epic Centre, Lincolnshire Showground and following dinner, R.W.Bro. Ryan Williams, Grand Secretary, announced to a packed dining room of over 800 brethren from across the country that the sesqui-centenary festival had raised a magnificent sum of £850,023.  He spoke about the early days of the MBF under the guiding hand of the Fund’s Founder, Rev’d Canon George Portal and the magnificent achievements that had been made since 1868.  Since the founding of the fund in 1868 it has granted £31,333,596 to worthy causes and individuals.

Our Province was very well represented by Provincial Grand Master, R.W.Bro. Bob Stokes together with R.W.Bro. George Bonham, W.Bro. Brian Elliott, W.Bro. Barry Weigleb, W.Bro. Richard Bedells, W.Bro. In his toast to the Festival President, R.W.Bro. Dr. John Wright, President of the MBF, congratulated Lincolnshire on their wonderful achievement which had been supported by donations from other Mark Provinces across the country and other masonic orders.  The evening of celebration concluded with a firework display in the showground before coaches returned everyone to their various Lincoln hotels.

Earlier in the day our party had spent free time in Lincoln including a trip on the “Brayford Belle” with a leisurely cruise along the Roman Fosse Dyke Canal from Brayford Wharf getting some relief from the hot sunshine and learning a bit of the chequered history of Lincoln!

The 151stFestival is to be hosted by the Provincial Grand Master and Province of Sussex and will be held on Saturday 6thJuly 2019 at Brighton.  Details of venue, hotels and costs etc., will be forthcoming but in the meantime if any brethren within Northants & Hunts Mark Province wish to attend please contact W.Bro.
