The Northampton Castle Lodge meeting of the 20th November saw the celebration of 50 years continuous working of the Lodge with nearly 70 Mark brethren in attendance to enjoy the occasion.
The Provincial Grand Master, R.W.Bro. Bob Stokes accompanied by 14 Grand Officers of the Province and a large number of active Provincial Grand Officers attended in support of the Lodge’s Jubilee. On entering the Lodge the ProvGM assumed the chair advising the brethren that he and the Provincial team were delighted to be attending on this happy occasion. He then announced to the delight of all present that he would be pleased to be able to confer a field appointment of Past Provincial Grand Junior Deacon to Bro. Barry Hadley in recognition of his work as Secretary of the Lodge and acknowledging his contributions to the Mark Degree and other orders in the Province.
Returning the Chair to W.Bro. Norman Sidey, WM, the meeting continued with an extract of the Minutes of the Lodge’s Consecration on the 19thNovember 1968 compiled by Bro. Barry Hadley during which he read verbatim the Consecrating Chaplain’s address. It was interesting to note the comparisons of the Norman Knight, Simon St.Liz who built Northampton Castle following the Norman Conquest and the members of the Simon de St Liz Mark Lodge No.245 who founded and built this Northampton Castle Lodge Mark No. 1346 for the benefit of future generations of Mark Masons. Of the founding Officers of the Lodge only two remain, R.W.Bro. Alan Stewart, residing in the Isle of Man and W.Bro Neil Jones now residing in Cirencester. W.Bro. Jones had travelled to attend the meeting and was warmly welcomed both by the WM and the ProvGM and R.W.Bro. Stewart had sent a message congratulating the Lodge.
The evening continued with the Installation of Bro. Gilbert Williamson as Master and who then appointed and invested his Officers for the year.
During the evening an Obituary was delivered by Bro. Mike Walsh for Honorary Member, W.Bro. Martin Calvert PPrGJW, who had ascended to the Grand Lodge above at 92 years of age and who had been a member since 1984.
Following the meeting the brethren and visitors retired to a celebratory festive board where the normal toasts were honoured and which completed a wonderful commemorative event.
