The Norman Rolfe Lodge meeting of the 11th February saw the celebration of 50 years of service to the Mark Order by W.Bro. Langford Smith.
The Provincial Grand Master, R.W.Bro. Bob Stokes accompanied by 10 Grand Officers of the Province and 15 active Provincial Grand Officers attended in support of the celebration held at Ellindon Masonic Centre in Peterborough to present him with his certificate from the Grand Master.
Bro. Langford was Initiated into Freemasonry whilst working in Nigeria and is currently a Craft member of Schola Regia Lodge No.9105 holding the rank of PPJGW. Returning to England, in 1969 he was Advanced into the Mark Degree in Fitzwilliam Lodge MMM No. 477 and was Worshipful Master in 1980. He received Mark Grand Rank of PAGDC in 1991.
In December last year, Bro. Langford celebrated his 87th Birthday. He was educated at The Masonic Boys School at Rickmansworth and later at Kings School Peterborough. A qualified Chartered Surveyor by profession he is married with four children. As well as his freemasonry interests, Bro. Langford is also the Commandant of the local Sea Cadets and very active with the British Legion. In his address the Provincial Grand Master said how pleased he was to be able to present the certificate on behalf of The Grand Master and the importance of recognising long service in the Order. He then requested the Provincial Grand Secretary to read the certificate to the assembled brethren.
On the same evening the Lodge undertook its annual Installation meeting with W.Bro. Alan Nicolls installing his successor, W.Bro. Clive Lane in an excellent ceremony following which everyone retired to a very enjoyable festive board.
