At the Annual Meeting of our Mark Provincial Grand Lodge in 2015 the then ProvGM, R.W.Bro. George Bonham presented a cheque from our Benevolent Fund to the then ProvGM for London R.W.Bro. David Ashbolt for £3000 towards the Mark Province of London Appeal to raise money to buy Minibuses for the use of the Masonic Homes in and around London. This qualified the Province to receive a Ceremonial Axe for use in Mark Ceremonies. It was agreed that this would be given to R.W.Bro .George Bonham’s mother Mark Lodge – Earl of Euston Lodge No. 1458.
London being such a large and busy Province it has taken almost five years for a delegation to be free to come to Earl of Euston Lodge to present it. This happened on Friday 28th February when the current ProvGM for London R.W.Bro. Tom Quinn, accompanied by the PastProvGM, R.W.Bro. David Ashbolt, and “axe maker” W.Bro. Charlie Newman came to Eaton Socon to present it. Bro. Charlie told the Brethren that this was the 75thhe had made and the first to be presented outside of the London Province. The evening, which included a truly excellent Advancement ceremony undertaken by the WM, W.Bro. Alan Edwards and his Officers - was enjoyed by all who attended.
Those who were present in 2015 will remember that it was R.W.Bro. David Ashbolt’s thanking response that gave Bro. George the title of “Legend” which was subsequently changed by the then Deputy Grand Master R.W.Bro. Keith Emmerson to “Leg-end” as he was escorted out at the end of the meeting.
