On Sunday, 24th November 2013, six hardy souls from Ferrers Mark Lodge and two friends set off on a sponsored walk in support of the Rushden Masonic Hall Building Fund, which needs funds to carry out much needed repairs to both the inside and outside of the building.
The start was appropriately from the Stonemasons College in Orton and picked its way through the villages of Loddington, Thorpe Malsor, Cransley, Mawsley, and Old Scaldwell, finishing at the White Swan in Holcot. Three more joined the group at Mawsley, accompanied by three canine companions who seemed to enjoy the exercise as much as the walkers. The ground was heavy under foot but all participants completed the walk successfully, apart from a few sore feet and aching joints. An excellent lunch was enjoyed by all and even the dogs were not forgotten and were permitted to join the group inside the pub.
Statistics of the walk were a total of thirteen and a half miles, covered in five hours and there were no drop outs - a highly commendable effort! More importantly, the sum of £825-00 was raised from the donations and promissory notes from the members of the Rushden lodges. Special thanks go to Bros Trevor Brunt and Roger Gunnett who were the principal organisers of a delightful and worthwhile day out.
